After our last tour together in 2013 and what turned out to be the last tour of his career, I told Joe I would archive the update emails I had sent from the road and post them.
He said, "That's a good idea, Nick."

About halfway into what turned out to be thirteen years in his band as keyboardist and then music director, I started writing regularly—first to family and a small group of friends to digest the experiences that constant travel can sometimes wash into a blur. Over the years the list expanded to almost a thousand people. The first twenty posts here are the original update emails in chronological order.

I post these to honor Joe and all who worked with him. There are more stories to write. I will continue to gather them and post from time to time and to invite others to contribute.

Come visit frequently, hang out if you want and get to know my experience of this great artist and true gentleman, Joe Cocker.

In Respect, Gratitude and Love,
Nick

July 2009

Hello, Family, Friends and Fellow Travelers,

The Joe Cocker US & Canada Tour of 2009 has officially come to a close.  Fifty four shows in about twelve weeks— that's hitting it consistently every week, taking days off only when needed, with a break in June.  It's also a lot of traveling
big country out here.  And, it all worked in the end.  I am writing you to say how happy I am that you got to see this tour.  (Most of you on the list here.)  And what I want to express more than anything is that I don't think Joe and the band musically peaked.  Each night there was something new, something fresh that made the musical bar rise to another level.  I would wish that everyone would come to see Joe Cocker now, at this point in his artistic life, because I can guarantee you will hear and feel true soul music, rock & roll that isn't simply vintage, isn't only a cutout copy of something that happened before, but that carries the torch of original inspiration and the lineage of tradition.

You know what I'm trying to say.  It's fun to try to put it in words.

I can put into words my thanks to everybody who rocked on this tour, which is the whole crew, band, drivers, "officers-in-the-field" (Ray and Eddie), and most of all, Joe.  What an honor to do this gig.  (From the first time I played "Feelin' Alright" at the audition in May, 2001...) I could go on about that, but for now, I just want to say thanks.

If you don't mind, I will keep you on future posts.  I have exciting new music coming out from my production and composing endeavors in the coming months.  My website www.milomon.com <http://www.milomon.com>  will be posting new developments as well, so please visit periodically.  And, of course, be in touch as you wish.

All the Best and Keep Rockin'!
Nick Milo

First three, and last photos by Norbert Fimpel (sax and percussion).  Thanks, Norbi!  (He's got a new smokin' album comin' out soon, too!)

Peace, NM
